Creating a Culture of Full Engagement
Are you a physician who is discouraged, disillusioned, or labeled as disruptive? Are you a group practice manager, VPMA, or Chair of a Wellness Committee who works with such physicians? If yes, then you have come to the right place. Since 2002, we have been providing masterful coaching to help hospitals hold on to their great doctors. And we have a great success record.
We use methods based on empirical research, and ancient stress reduction methodology to address the issue of physician engagement. We use a non-punitive, positive solution focused approach to make lasting changes in the way physicians think about and approach their work. We are committed to being a part of making health care its best, by holding on to one of its most valuable resources, physicians.
True North specializes in individualized and group coaching on and off-site for professionals in the fields of medicine, management and health science. Each client is self-paced within a unique and personally tailored atmosphere. We also work in conjunction with Medical Executive Committees, Wellness Committess and hospital staff.
What Sets Us Apart?
We start by asking, "What is right with you?" and take an approach that builds upon your strengths, and emphatically understands how even the best of the best can find themselves in need of new ways to navigate the ever changing pressures of health care today.
We are highly customized providing you many choices on how you want to be coached. You are an essential part of the team to design your coaching program. As a team, together we will discern the assessment that will give you and, if appropriate, your committees and administrators the data they need to identify areas of growth. You will have an in-depth knowledge of how you relate to others while you are under stress, and some concrete tools to practice until new beneficial behaviors become habituated.
We guide you to make changes at the root of the problem, not just the symptoms. Our goal is to make this the last time you will ever need coaching or guidance by attacking the root cause. You will be transformed.
We understand you may be required to seek intervention by your group practice, wellness committee or others. We are willing to work with these entities to coordinate expectations and define success. We realize this may be the presenting issue, however, you will find yourself re-connected to your call to medicine.
We use second century methods to provide solutions to 21st century challenges. Methods that have proven the test of time by new neuro-science research.
Since health care is a 24/7 profession, we are available around the clock. This means, you can schedule coaching sessions when it is most convenient to you. We also are able to work with the time frames of physicians located outside the US time zones.
We are on-call 24/7 for those moments when you need support now. These are usually short calls that address an immediate concern, in-between coaching sessions.
We understand the pressures and politics of medicine today. Our in-depth experience with physicians around the world, has given us a unique education on medicine today. Our coaches are highly knowledgeable in this arena.
We provide a 2 day, off-site, intensive coaching in a relaxed setting. You will meet at least three of our team members during your stay and will have access to two coaches through-out your stay. You pick the coaches that have the best fit for you. And we follow up with at least 5 coaching sessions, to help you put into practice new learned behaviors.
We offer turn-key incentives. We make it as easy as possible for you to attend an intensive coaching session. Room and board, airport pick-up and drop-off at Northwest Arkansas Airport (XNA) and Drake Field are provided. All you need to do is bring a toothbrush, and if you forget that, we even will have one for you.
All who work with True North, have committed to donating up to 20% of their profits to a charitable cause of their choice. Your monies spent not only go to benefit you and the hospital, a portion of it is spent to help benefit others who are in need.
You will be assigned a coach credential by the International Coaching Federation. ICF regulates the coaching profession. Going with an ICF credential coach means you are engaged with a highly trained and experienced coach, who has taken an oath to abide by the profession's ethics and standards. You can expect the utmost in confidentiality.
The typical process includes:
- An initial conversation to understand your purpose for seeking coaching
- A conversation with your referring source as to expectations, identified growth areas, and desired results.
- A physician intensive off-site is recommended as a start so we may thoroughly understand you and guide you to understand your strengths, growth opportunities and blind spots (if any.) If off-site is not possible, we can arrange to have a coach come to you on-site.
- Assessments which can include: levels of stress, how your relate to others under stress, 360 assessment to gain feedback on how others view you, values and character strengths, work strengths, communication styles, personality type.
- Auxiliary professional to assess as needed: AXIS 1 and AXIS 11 diagnosis, annual physical, Trauma Symptom Inventory, mini-mental status, MMP 2, anger assessments, and GARS.
- Follow up coaching, one-hour, weekly meetings. Typically 6 to 18 follow up coaching meetings.
What Coaching is Not
Coaching is not psychotherapy, nor is it consulting and should not be used as a means for emotional healing or to obtain expert advice. We will use experts who can assess if coaching is the right strategy for you of if something else is needed either solely or in conjunction with coaching to help you make beneficial changes.
